L'utilisation, à des fins éditoriales ou pour mise en ligne sur un site Internet, de clichés, de tirages photographiques ou d'images numériques reproduisant des documents manuscrits ou imprimés conservés à la Bibliothèque de l'Institut est soumise à l'autorisation écrite du directeur de la bibliothèque ; elle comporte également l'obligation de préciser, outre le nom du photographe, la provenance de l'objet ou du document reproduit (Paris, Bibliothèque de l'Institut) ; elle s'accompagne enfin du versement d'un droit d'utilisation en faveur de la bibliothèque, dont on trouvera le tarif ci-dessous.

Important : le chèque, établi à l'ordre du « Receveur des fondations de l'Institut de France », doit être adressé à l'Agence comptable de l'Institut de France.

ENGLISH VERSION : The Institut de France holdings are not in public domain. Before duplicating or using any picture, you have to apply for authorization at the Institut de France (Mireille Pastoureau, head of the Library) : 23 quai de Conti, F-75006 Paris, mireille.pastoureau@bif.univ-paris5.fr.
Publication in paper or digital form of reproductions of manuscript or printed documents from the library, be them prints or digitized images, is dependent upon the written authorization of the director of the library. The name of the photographer will be mentioned as well as provenance (Paris, Bibliothèque de l'Institut). A user fee will be paid according to the following price list.
The reproduction fees charged by the Institut de France (see price list below) are in supplement to those of the photographers or Photographical Agencies. They are charged by the Bibliothèque de l'Institut for the right to use images of any item kept in the Library. They reflect the possession of the item by the Library and can be charged even when an item is out of copyright. Charges vary according to the media (see below) and can be lowered for not-for-profit use (you may apply for reduced reproduction fees in writing to the director of the Library).
For electronic or Internet use of several images, or for reproduction of complete works, fees will be determined upon request.
Important : On receiving the invoice, checks should be drawn up in the name of the « Receveur des fondations de l'Institut de France » and sent to the "Agence comptable de l'Institut de France".

UTilisation sur internet :
Tout projet de reproduction intégrale d’un ouvrage ou comportant un grand nombre d’images fera l’objet d’une convention avec la bibliothèque.

Tarif normal de la redevance d’utilisation : 

Imprimés
Pages 1 à 10 (incluse) :             15 € la page
Pages 11 à 50 (incluse) :               5 € la page
Pages 51 et suivantes :                 1 € la page
Manuscrits
Pages   1 à 10 (incluse) :             20 € la page
Pages 11 à 50 (incluse) :               8 € la page
Pages 51 et suivantes :                    1,5 € la page

Une éventuelle réduction de tarif sera accordée en fonction de critères éditoriaux et après négociation selon l’économie générale du projet.
Exonération pour les donateurs et leurs héritiers après avis de la Commission des bibliothèques et archives.

Édition sur papier :
Majorations éventuelles :    
droits pour l'Europe + 100 % ; droits mondiaux + 200 %.
Réductions :   publications scientifiques - 50 %.

Les demandes de dérogation au tarif plein doivent être adressées au directeur de la bibliothèque.

ENGLISH VERSION
INTERNET USE. Integral reproduction of a document, as well as any reproduction of a large number of images has to be approved by the Institut de France.

These prices can vary in consideration of specific projects. Donators and their heirs can be exempted from payment of fees after advice of the “Commission des bibliothèques et archives.”

DUPLICATION IN PRINTED BOOKS
Increased price: European rights +100 %; world rights + 200 %.
Discounts : scholarly publications - 50 %.

Exceptions from standard prices should be requested from the director of the library.
